Essentially there are two main types of marine pneumatic rubbers, defined as either low or high pressure fenders. Pneumatic rubber fenders are made of synthetic-cord-reinforced rubber sheets with compressed air inside at initial pressure of 50kPa (low pressure) or 80kPa (high pressure) to enable it to float on water and work as a shock absorber between two ships or between ship and a dock. Although manufactured using different techniques, both low and high pressure fenders work by the same principle.

There are 2 typical pneumatic rubber fenders: net type fender and sling type fender.

Net type fender is a fender covered with a protetion net consisting of either chain, wire, or rope and usually with tyres and rubber sleeves.
